How To: Get the most out of your Getting Ready Photos
The morning of your wedding is an incredibly special time. Getting ready with your bridesmaids is a memory you’ll have forever, and getting some snapshots taken is a really fun part of your wedding day. Here are some tips I offer my brides to make sure they’re making the most of their getting ready photos!
Keep the room neat and tidy. As women, we need lots of stuff to get ready but, we also don’t want to see that in photographs. Make sure your ladies have all their stuff together and keep the room tidy so clutter isn’t in the background of your photos. I suggest getting clear totes for each bridesmaid so she can keep all of her stuff together and the totes can be stacked up in a corner out of the way.
Carefully consider who to have with you as you get ready. If you have a high-maintenance sister or friend that stresses you out, consider keeping your crew as small as possible.
Don’t forget to eat something. Have a tray of sandwiches or fruit so you and your girls can snack on it. Drink plenty of water too.
By the time your photographer arrives, have most of your hair and makeup done. Your photographer will definitely want to grab some shots of you getting beautified, but arriving near the end of your getting ready session will ensure you look glam in all the photos.
Have all of your important details, like your jewelry, shoes, invitations, etc., set aside for your photographer. Then he or she can start grabbing shots of those while you finish getting ready.
Don’t forget to have a pretty hanger for your dress instead of the plain plastic hangers they typically come with.
Bridesmaids need pretty hangers too. This could be plain black hangers or wooden ones you gift them, but a nice cohesive look is great for photos.
Make sure your bridesmaids are ready to go with their hair and makeup when the photographer arrives. If you got them cute robes or rompers as a gift, make sure they have them on instead of changing into their bridesmaid’s dresses early.
Relax! Don’t worry about the small things—instead, think about how it’s the most important day of your life that you’ve been waiting for. The joy you feel will show in all of your pictures, and your getting-ready crew will feed off of your excitement.
Overall, if you want great getting ready photos, the most important thing to remember is that it’s supposed to be fun. Trust your photographer, drink some champagne, and revel in the fact that it’s your wedding day!
