You’ll never be photographed in your life as much as you will be on your wedding day! Your photographer will capture you from different angles, solo and with others, wearing a range of emotions (Excited! Nervous! Teary-eyed!) You’ll want to make sure you have your game face on. Here are a few tips I give brides to make sure their photos have flawless wedding makeup.
Skincare starts on the days leading up to your wedding. Drink tons of water the days before your wedding and avoid salt or alcohol. That will keep your skin feeling fresh and glowy. Also, don’t do anything new for at least a couple of days before your big day—no new toners, no eyebrow waxes, etc. The morning of your wedding, moisturize your face as you would typically and drink some pure fruit juice for fresh-looking skin.
When it comes to your look, you do need some makeup, even if you’re usually bare-faced. Low-maintenance lady? Great! But with the flash from your photographer’s camera, you’re going to need at least a little. Tell your makeup artist if you’re concerned about looking too “cakey”. At the same time, avoid going overboard. Yes, you want to hide blemishes, but you also don’t want to look like a mannequin coming down the aisle.
Have a trial with your makeup artist before your wedding so that you can get on the same page. Your makeup artist will be able to help you pick colors that work well with your skin tone and highlight your best features. It’ll help you be less nervous on the morning of your wedding to know you’ve been through this with your artist before. Trials are super important! Making sure you love the look is very important and you don’t want to trust that by winging it on your wedding day. I suggest bridal portraits for this reason as well. Seeing yourself in photos with your makeup is different than looking in a mirror. Flashes and lighting can make everything look different.
When it comes to your eyes, if you want them to look amazing in your photos, consider going false with individual lashes instead of one long strip. Individual lashes will make your eyes pop from far away. Make sure not to stay up too late partying after your rehearsal dinner to avoid under-eye circles, and ask your artist to use a brightening concealer so that you look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
I also suggest air-brush make up to most of my brides. You can’t cry it off or sweat it off. You still look flawless by the end of your reception! Everyone’s skin is different so let your makeup artist tell you what they think would look best.
Your makeup should help you feel like the best version of yourself, not like a fake version of something you saw in a magazine. Trust your makeup artist, take care of your skin, and rest easy knowing that you will look amazing on your wedding day.
