October 1, 2013 was a beautiful Autumn day in Denton, Texas. Jonathan and Shelbi were seniors at The University of North Texas and attending school like any ordinary day. Shelbi was leaving class and noticed her high school friend, Deanna, walking down the sidewalk and screamed and hugged her! She noticed Deanna had a friend with her (a very cute one), Jonathan, and they were introduced. They were done with class for the afternoon and Shelbi was headed to lunch with her best friend Lauren and invited them both to tag along.
They jumped in Lauren’s car and headed for Sushi Cafe on campus. Once they were at the cafe, Jonathan seemed very interested in Shelbi’s degree. They instantly connected on their similar passion for writing.
They talked for over an hour. After a long lunch, Lauren and Shelbi headed to her car… only to find that it had been towed while they ate! Jonathan was sweet enough to offer Shelbi and Lauren a ride to go get it. While in the backseat, Shelbi spotted his name on some school work. She used this information to befriend him through Facebook. They dropped Lauren off at the tow yard and Jonathan took Shelbi back to her car.
They hung out as friends for a couple weeks after their first meeting; going out at night, singing karaoke, and even just watching movies. Shelbi invited Jonathan over for a home-cooked meal. He thought that would be a good time to confess his feelings for her. They fell in love quickly and deeply.
Once they graduated, Jonathan moved in with her and they started their careers. In July of 2016, they bought their first home. As many humongous steps as their relationship had taken, Jonathan had one more in mind for that summer.
August 12, 2016 was a Friday evening, which Shelbi usually worked. Jonathan had a huge plan to take her out to see a meteor shower, which is one of their favorite things to do together. As the night grew on, the weather turned and it began to rain. It also happened to be a very long night at work for Shelbi and she didn’t leave until 11PM. Jonathan grew nervous, but he had a backup plan.
Shelbi headed home and let him know she was on the way. She arrived and saw rose petals up the sidewalk and front porch. All the lights were off, but the house was lit with candles. Jonathan was in the living room with a full suit and bouquet of flowers waiting. There was a picnic pallet of champagne and chocolates and a live broadcast of the meteor shower on the T.V. Jonathan pulled her in close, told her how much he loved her and couldn’t picture a life without her. He got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage with a beautiful custom oval diamond. She cried and squeaked out a YES!
Shelbi and Jonathan were married this past Saturday at The Grove in Aubrey, Texas. The weather cooperated and they were able to get married outside just as they wanted. The ceremony was beautiful. Jonathan should write wedding vows for a living. His vows were so sweet!! Maybe I can hire him to write all my blogs 🙂
After the ceremony and a few photos, we went to the reception where the live band was. They played lots a great songs and everyone danced the night away. BUT…the best part of the reception, had to be the garter removal. It was seriously the best thing I have ever witnessed. A choreographed dance to “Pony” by Ginuwine. Here’s a clip from the videographer.
It was such a fun night and I am so glad I was there to capture it all.
